Pioneered in Australia.
Proven at Scale.
Driven by Data.
iCutter Industries pioneered the adoption of PDC technology in Australian mining, proving its performance at scale long before the rest of the market followed.
At a time when conventional tooling dominated blasthole drilling, iCutter led the transition to PDC through real-world application, not theory, delivering measurable gains in performance, safety, and cost efficiency.
Proven at Scale
PDC performance only matters if it can be delivered consistently across operations.
- 700,000 – 1,000,000 metres drilled per month using PDC
- 20+ active PDC supply sites across Australia (including Tier 1 operations)
- Multiple site drilling performance records achieved
- Consistent results across varied ground conditions and drill fleets
This is not trial work; this is proven production performance.
Setting the Benchmark
iCutter was the first to properly introduce and validate mining PDC technology in Australia.
- Established PDC as a high-performance alternative in blasthole drilling
- Broken multiple site records for metres drilled per hour
- Delivered repeatable performance across both manual and automated operations
- Proven measurable reductions in total drilling cost per metre
Our approach is simple: performance first, backed by data.
PDC Leadership Timeline
iCutter's mining PDC technology development is rooted in decades of hands-on drilling experience. The company started using PDC tooling in exploration drilling in the early 2000s. By the mid-2000s, iCutter advanced to fixed cutter and claw-style systems, gaining critical operational knowledge. In 2017, the XD Drill Bit program began, focused on creating a next-generation mining drill bit to challenge conventional claw drilling in the blasthole sector. From 2017 to 2019, iCutter partnered with experienced bit developers and former oilfield designers to adapt high-performance PDC concepts for the harsh demands of mining blast hole drilling.
In 2021, iCutter was granted its first Australian patent relating to mining drill bit technology, marking a significant milestone in the company’s research and development journey.
Since then, iCutter has continued expanding its intellectual property portfolio through multiple patent applications and registered drill bit designs across various mining drilling technologies and applications.iCutter continues to invest heavily in Australian manufacturing capability to support the ongoing development, production, and refurbishment of mining PDC technologies. Our workshop currently operates with a refurbishment and production capacity of approximately 250 drill bits per month. To support this capability, iCutter has invested in advanced manufacturing and refurbishment technologies including:
- High-technology brazing facilities
- Induction heating systems
- Hardening and wear management facilities
- Dedicated PDC refurbishment capability
- Continuous tooling and process development
Successful PDC deployment requires far more than simply supplying a drill bit. At iCutter, every deployment is carried out through structured operational integration, site-specific optimisation, and ongoing field support to ensure long-term performance and consistency.
Through years of development and large-scale field application, iCutter has established one of the most experienced mining PDC deployment programs in Australia.
While many companies now offer PDC products, few have demonstrated the ability to successfully deploy and sustain mining PDC technology at scale across multiple operations. In 2022, iCutter’s mining PDC development transitioned into full-scale operational deployment, with customers across Australia collectively drilling approximately 700,000 - 1,000,000 metres per month using PDC technology.
What began as years of research, development, and structured field testing has now become a core part of iCutter’s business and operational identity.
Through extensive field experience, operational refinement, and large-scale deployment across multiple mining operations, iCutter has developed one of the most experienced mining PDC deployment programs in Australia.iCutter was the first to introduce a full-scale PDC refurbishment facility dedicated to mining drill bits in Australia. Today, we operate the largest refurbishment facility of its kind in the country, enabling:
- Significant extension of bit life
- Reduced total cost of ownership
- Fast turnaround to minimise downtime
- A practical circular economy approach within mining operations
From 2024, iCutter expanded across multiple coal operations with over fifteen active drills converted to PDC. Production rates lifted 20 to 30 per cent consistently across all sites.
At two operations, the productivity gains were enough to reduce the active drill fleet by one rig per site. Fewer machines drilling more metres. That outcome was presented at the International Society of Explosives Engineers (ISEE) conference.
In 2026, an additional site has come online with engagement underway for an additional site.
iCutter is completing a structured program with a Tier 1 iron ore producer in the Pilbara. The program is now moving into Stage 2. It is the most rigorous independent validation of iCutter PDC technology to date./
Why Operations Choose PDC with iCutter
Mining operations don’t adopt PDC for theory; they adopt it for results.
- Lower cost per metre
- Higher penetration rates
- Fewer bit changeouts = more productive drilling hours
- Improved hole quality and stability
- Reduced crew exposure on the bench
In high-performing operations, iCutter’s PDC technology has enabled sites to achieve such high penetration rates and drilling productivity that overall fleet requirements can be reduced.
A Proven Leader in Mining PDC
Today, iCutter is recognised as a leader in mining PDC technologies, combining:
- Field-proven performance at scale
- Continuous product development
- Strong intellectual property
- End-to-end lifecycle capability
While many have since entered the PDC space, few have demonstrated the ability to deliver consistent results across multiple operations at scale.
